Member of the Month

The Member of the Month for January is Leslie Soderquist. Leslie is a fairly recent member; as her boys were born this past summer. In her time as a member she has become a very active member. She attends most of the meetings and has participated in the family events. She was even gracious enough to host the MoMs Holiday Party. She was a fantastic hostess; here she even had great twin related games for all to play.   Thank you Leslie for the support to the club!

Some Quirky Thanksgiving Fun Facts:

1. Only male turkeys (Toms) gobble. It is a mating call to attract the females (hens)

2. Turducken has become a modern-day staple at many Thanksgiving meals. It consists of a de-boned turkey stuffed with a de-boned duck, which has been stuffed with a small de-boned chicken.

3. Benjamin Franklin gave male turkeys the name "Tom" in honor of Thomas Jefferson, who refused to declare the turkey as the national bird.

Just for Fun!

Here are some fun facts and figures about twins

  • Identical twins share the same DNA, but will have their own fingerprints
  • Male twins will not have twins unless their wives have the ability to produce 2 eggs
  • China has the lowest rate of twinning in the world
  • It is a myth that fraternal twins skip a generation
  • Fraternal twin girls have twice the chance of giving birth to twins than singletons
  • 1 in 250 pregnancies can result in identical twins
  • In Nigeria, that rate of twin pregnancies can be 1 in 20
  • 22% of twins are left handed, compared to 10% of singletons
  • Gemellogy is the term for scientific study of twins
  • Identical twins experience nearly identical brain patterns
  • Australia produced the first set of test-tube twins in 1981.  They also produced the world’s first triplet and quadruplets.

Shutterfly Share Site

Shuttefly

We have started a new photo site through Shutterfly for all the pictures from club events throughout the year.  The address is http://louisvilletwinsclub.shutterfly.com. Contact Sarah for the password. Over the next few weeks we will be uploading the pictures from the Fall Festival and the other events we've had (any pictures that are on the main website.)  Once the pictures are up on the photo site you will be able to log on, view the pictures, and order prints. To order prints you will have to have a Shutterfly account.

Hopefully this will make it easier to get pictures of events.  Have some patience while we get everything up and running, but definitely email me and let me know if you have issues accessing the site, ordering pictures, etc.  My email is This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. TWINS

What's cuter than one baby?
A precious set of twins.
With matching little outfits-
and matchless little grins.
With twice as many babies,
how very busy you will be,
Just think of all the loving
They'll bring your family.

I Want To Be Locked Up

I want to be locked up
Away from everything,
Free from all the craziness
A mother's day can bring.

No planning, shopping, cooking
Three healthy meals a day,
Served up with love to finicky kids
Who throw most of it away.

No constant interruptions,
Dirty laundry on the floor,
Driving everyone every place,
Sibling rivalry (It’s war!)

So You Think You Have It Hard

In the early to mid-1700's (1725-1765), a Russian peasant gave birth to 16 sets of twins, seven sets of triplets and four sets of quadruplets!

Did You Know…

A horse giving birth to twins is very rare. In fact, there is only a 1 in 10,000 chance that both foals will survive. Earlier this year, one lucky mare in Minnesota beat the odds and gave birth to her healthy babies: Sugar and Spice.
